Bruissement boréal, is the story of a friendship and a creative union between two musicians from the Canadian jazz scene: Christine Tassan on guitar and Marie-Véronique Bourque on flute.

It is also the result of a challenge to compose new pieces remotely inspired by the sounds of nature in Quebec and Saskatchewan, where Christine and Marie-Véronique live. Five songs in five hours written by each simultaneously, taking into account the time difference. Five days of challenges, exchange, suggestions, new ideas shared, effects pedal tests, search for grooves and selection of songs to be developed.

In January 2024, it is in the enchanting setting of Domaine Forget (Quebec), that Christine and Marie-Véronique meet in person to continue their musical creative process and give life to Bruissement boréal, accompanied by double bassist David Meunier-Roy and percussionist and drummer Olivier Bussières. Recorded at Studio Opus in January 2025, Bruissement boréal will be launched at the Ministry (Montreal, QC) on May 16, 2025.

The album is a true ode to nature that surrounds us, inspires us, soothes us and without which we cannot exist!

FANTASY FOR SOLO FLUTE ON QUEEN'S BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY

Flutist Marie-Véronique Bourque reinvents Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" with her "Fantasy for Solo Flute." She recorded the tribute at Rockfield Studios, where Mercury created the original. Mastering technical feats like singing into the flute.

The “Fantasy for Solo Flute on Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody” is exactly what the title promises: a one-woman tour de force in which the accomplished instrumentalist performs every element of the rock radio classic, from Freddie Mercury’s operatic vocal lines to Brian May’s iconic guitar solo. All six minutes of it, in one take.

Marie-Véronique wants to send a heartfelt thank you to Lisa Fitzgibbon, Pro7ect, and the entire team at Rockfield Studios for the incredible opportunity to record her flute fantasy in such a legendary setting.

‘’We began late at night in the Quadrangle Studio, equipped with three microphones, two music stands, and five pages of sheet music. We captured just two takes—the one you’ll hear on this CD is the second.

After returning home to Canada, I added, with the assistance of sound engineer Mario Lepage, a few bass flute lines, harmonies on the C flute, and some special effects to capture the essence of Bohemian Rhapsody.
I sincerely hope that Freddie Mercury is smiling from above at what I’ve done with his iconic song.

THE SHOVEL SHUFFLE (SINGLE)

"The Shovel Shuffle" is a nod to the joys of winter and particularly the pleasure of shoveling. It is dedicated to shovelers all over the world!

The video and the audio were recorded at Darke Hall in Regina, Saskatchewan, on May 30, 2022 and yes... it was snowing outside! (true story)

The song features Craig Salkeld on vocals and piano, Fred Foerster on double bass, Chris Wallace on drums and Marie-Véronique Bourque on flute.

"The Shovel Shuffle" has lyrics that will bring you back to your childhood memories. It is your cue to get your shovel and dance the shuffle!

"Entre Québec & Saskatchewan" was born from a need to build a bridge between my identities as a Québécoise and Saskatchewanian. Recorded in Québec City and in Regina, it brings together original songs that refer to people, locations and events reminding me of the roots I developed over time in Saskatchewan and Quebec, two places I call home.

This song was written for my dear friend Carol. Today, it is intended for all those who are going through a rough time with the current state of the world.

UNE PORTE S'OUVRE

Marie-Véronique Bourque's debut album Une Porte s'ouvre is dedicated to French Jazz and features herself on flute. She is accompanied by incredible musicians from Calgary, Regina and Quebec : Michelle Grégoire, one of Canada's most significant jazz talents, Jeremy Coates, one of the Western Canada's busiest working bass player, Tyler Hornby, Juno Award nominee, Jack Semple, Juno Award winner, Mark DeJong, WCMA nominee, and Marie-Noëlle Claveau, Gala de l'ADISQ nominee.

The album contains nine tracks. Three of them are originals and include "Excusez-moi" written in collaboration with Michelle Gregoire. This song won a semi-final award at the Canadian songwriting Competition 2018. Other tracks include songs from Charles Aznavour, Serge Gainsbourg, Claude Nougaro, Michel Legrand, Maurice Ravel, and Moe Koffman.
